History

Pakistan Hypertension League was conceived by Prof. Azhar Masood A. Faruqui and his associates in 1995, but officially launched in June 1997. The Founding Council of members included Prof. Azhar Masood A. Faququi, Prof. Mohammad Ishaq, Prof. Kalimuddin Aziz, Prof. Ejaz A. Vohra, Dr. MAqbool H. Jafary, Prof. Nazir Ahmed Memon & Prof. Ashfaq A. Khan (late). The Founding group met on several occasions to make preparations and draft the statutes.A steering committee meeting comprising of leading experts in their respective fields met to draft the statutes and in June 1997 the league was officially launched at Hotel Pearl Continental Karachi.

The Founder members elected Prof. Azhar M. A. Faruqui as the Founder President and Prof. Mohammad Ishaq as Founder General Secretary. The other office bearers were as below:
